ZimParks Launches Escape to the Wild Festive Campaign
This festive season, the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) is inviting the nation to trade crowded malls for the untamed beauty of nature through a groundbreaking campaign titled “Escape to the Wild.”
Launching tomorrow, the initiative marks a bold departure from traditional holiday marketing. Instead of promoting consumerism, ZimParks is focusing on community engagement, conservation awareness, and national pride in Zimbabwe’s natural heritage.
A roadshow like no other

The campaign will kick off with an interactive roadshow parade that brings the spirit of the wilderness directly to the streets of Harare.
Live bands, mascots, and interactive exhibits will take over major bus terminals and shopping centres across the capital’s central business district, turning everyday spaces into gateways to adventure.
But ZimParks’ approach goes beyond entertainment. In partnership with local banks and health institutions, free medical checkups and bank account openings will be offered at Africa Unity Square — a move that blends public service with tourism promotion.
“This isn’t just marketing; it’s community service wrapped in conservation awareness,” said ZimParks in a statement.
Reconnecting families with nature
Running from November 14 to January 5, the campaign also features a “Share Your Selfie with Big Five Animals” contest, where participants can win one of three all-expenses-paid holiday packages to Zimbabwe’s premier national parks.
However, ZimParks says the real reward lies in inspiring families to disconnect from screens and rediscover the magic of the wild together.
“Most tourism campaigns target international visitors. Ours begins with communities. When locals become conservation ambassadors, authentic tourism follows.”
Promoting pride and conservation
The campaign’s central message — that Zimbabwe’s wilderness is a priceless national gift — resonates strongly at a time when many people are increasingly drawn to artificial entertainment experiences.
In contrast, ZimParks is highlighting the authentic adventures offered by destinations such as Hwange, Mana Pools, Gonarezhou, and Matobo Hills — places where wildlife, landscapes, and heritage combine to create experiences that no theme park can replicate.
Through hashtags such as #WildWonders, #GiftOfWilderness, #FestiveWildlifeAdventures, and #VisitZimparks, the campaign is expected to gain momentum on social media, encouraging citizens to share their own wild experiences and amplify conservation messages.
Tourism with purpose
ZimParks’ “Escape to the Wild” initiative arrives at a crucial time for Zimbabwe’s tourism industry, which continues to recover and adapt following global disruptions in recent years.
By prioritising local participation and inclusivity, they aim to build a sustainable tourism model that benefits both people and the environment.
Industry observers have praised the campaign’s fresh approach, noting that it transforms traditional marketing into a celebration of community, health, and national pride.
As the festive season approaches, ZimParks is challenging Zimbabweans to rethink how they spend their holidays — not just shopping for gifts, but seeking the “Gift of Wilderness.”
In a world dominated by artificial experiences, Zimbabwe’s parks promise something no mall can offer — memories that roar back to life every time the story gets told.
